She was born on March 28, 1966, in New York City, New York. Per what we gathered, her father was a transit worker and her mother worked as a bank manager. She’s known for crossover hits like “Shoop” and “Whatta Man.”

She had her high school education at Grover Cleveland High School and after that, she proceeded to the Queensborough Community College with the intent to study nursing. During her school days, she also worked part-time at Sears.
She discovered her rap talent during her time in college and it was there she met her friend, Sandra Denton. Due to how good they were together musician, James’ fiancee at that time, Hurby Azor suggested that they two record a rap to help him with a project in his record production program.
