Copa America, Euro 2020 Postponed Until 2021
The European Championship 2020 has officially postponed the tournament by a year until 2021 following the increasing coronavirus pandemic, BBC Sport confirmed.
European football’s governing body, UEFA has been holding meetings via video conferences where they revealed the news on Tuesday about the postponement of the tournaments.
The Norwegian FA made the decision that tournament will kick off from June 11 to July 11 next year. The tournament was due to take place from June 12 – July 12 this year at 12 venues across Europe.
The postponement provides a chance for European leagues that have been suspended to now be completed. Uefa’s Nations League and the European U21 Championships have also scheduled to kick off in the upcoming summer.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Copa América would be postponed until next year.
The South American showpiece was set to be held later this year concurrently alongside Euro 2020, but both major continental tournaments have now been postponed. Copa América will now take place in the summer of 2021 where Brazil will attempt to defend the crown they won in June of 2019.
