Ebony’s Father Starboy Kwarteng To Organize Annual Jollof Party To Honour His Daughter
Father of late Ghanaian singer Ebony Reigns, Nana Poku Kwarteng, known as Starboy Kwarteng has disclosed that he will organize an annual Jollof party on Ebony’s birthday which falls on the 16th of February to celebrate the musician who was killed in a road accident two years ago.
The catastrophic news that the vibrant Afro-beat and Dancehall artiste could no longer be considered among the living came as a shock to many Ghanaians at Sunyani in the Bono Region where she had visited her mother.
Starboy in an interview with Mzgee on the Showbiz 927 on 3FM was asked why he is organizing a Jollof party to celebrate the dancehall queen, Mr. Kwarteng explained that Ebony loved cooking Jollof, claiming she cooked it best than anybody.
“I decided to choose it being her birthday, to invite people all over to come over to my place, wine and dine with us which the menu wouldn’t be anything apart from Jollof, chicken, and salad. I’m trying to immortalize her personality in my way, I’m trying to as it were, to protect her legacy. Since you come over to eat Jollof or you cook it in the house is still remembering the queen. Her legacy lives on.”
He further stressed that Ebony left a great legacy.
“First female artist to win the prestigious award Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA 2018 Artiste of the year)… her style, her attitude, everything about the queen was so unique, that you cannot compare hence when she died, the government involved its resources to make it a big deal.”
Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known by her stage name Ebony Reigns, was a Ghanaian dancehall/Afrobeats artist known for her hit songs “Poison” and “Kupe”. She was discovered by Bullet from Ruff n Smooth.
