South African Rapper, AKA, Shot Dead In Durban

South African rapper, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was shot and killed – along with another man who has been reported to be his former manager – in a shooting at a popular night spot on Durban’s Florida Road on Friday night.
- What lead up to the incident is not yet clear.
- AKA’s bodyguard was also wounded.

According to reports by the police in Durban, he was allegedly murdered in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on Friday night. Some persons in two cars were believed to have opened fire on the rapper around 10 pm on Friday.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said;
“I can confirm that two men were killed and one of them is a well-known rapper. Police will not be releasing any names of the victims yet until a full investigation is completed.”

Forbes was billed to perform in the city on Friday night, and footage posted on Instagram showed jovial scenes as the rapper toasted with a table full of friends.
Born and raised in Cape Town, the singer gained significance after releasing his single “Victory Lap” which was released from his debut studio album, Altar Ego (2011).
AKA’s fiancé Anele Tembe also reportedly fell to death in her hotel room in a Cape Town hotel in April 2021. The rapper was also was due to release a new album, “Mass Country,” on Feb. 27.
